About Tīkina Pets

Kia Ora!

I’m from Te Tai Tokerau and I’m on a personal haerenga of reconnecting with my culture. My journey in Te Reo Māori includes having sharing it with my beloved puppy Roy, teaching him commands in Māori and bonding through our shared learning. At the same time, I have been exploring the traditional art of tāniko weaving, immersing myself in the techniques and stories behind it.

The idea for Tīkina Pets was inspired by this time Roy and I shared, blending my passion for tāniko with my love for him. The name "Tīkina" comes from his favorite game, Tīki (fetch). Creating tāniko-inspired accessories for pets reflects both my cultural journey and the bond Roy and I shared. Every piece tells part of that story, celebrating my learnings, heritage and the special connection I had with my little mate.

ROY

ROY THE GOOD BOY

Roy was more than just a puppy—he was the heart and inspiration behind Tīkina Pets. Our kaupapa Māori journey of learning Te Reo, weaving tāniko, and building this business began with him by our side. Tragically, Roy passed away in October 2024, just before the first release of our collars arrived. Although he’s no longer with us, his spirit continues to guide everything we do. Every design, every product, and every step forward is a tribute to Roy. He will always be a part of Tīkina Pets, and we carry his memory with us every day.

The Whānau

At Tīkina Pets, our team is made up of the real stars—our incredible dog models!
Each one brings their unique personality and charm, helping us showcase our tāniko-inspired accessories in action. From playful pups to calm companions, they represent the diverse and special bond we share with our furry friends. Our models are not just faces; they’re part of the Tīkina whānau, inspiring us every day to create products that are as functional as they are meaningful.
